I saw this movie not long after it came out and didn't like it. In the days, months and years that followed I couldn't stop thinking about it. It was slow, drawn out and sometimes downright boring but even so I couldn't stop thinking about it. It captured the intense yet quiet fervor of celebrity worship and the seedy industries that emerge as a result.
It's definitely not my favourite Cronenberg, but as you say--it captures that fervor and industry so well. It feels like we're not far off from this "product" being a reality.
Prophecy in disguise. But here I am especially intrigued by how technology, like the virus, cares only for its survival and its propagation. The metaphor packed in there is true and alive. We may not be as far Antiviral, but we are seeing technological evolution at human expense already. It evolves through dreamers; which is the best part. McLuhan says the chicken is the egg's way of making more eggs.

I really enjoyed Infinity Pool. As for the elder Cronenberg my favorite would have to be Eastern Promises.

Well done.
McLuhan remains incredibly prescient! Thank you for reading.
Wonderfully written. Horrifying subject!
