It is a profound insult that music industry folks refer to bands or artists as "hobbyists"; given that the opportunities to make music as a profession have been made elusive to the point of non-existence. The disdain implied in that term damages the prospects of some extremely fine and distinctive musicians, and is unwarranted.
I find it saddening, and rather irksome; but then I expect nothing else from the denizens of the bowels of the music industry trench.
What I find infuriating is how their routine, bitter denegration of those who do not depend upon them as serfs for a living gets passed down into the common parlance. It is in no way a reflection upon the quality or validity of our music, that we do something else also, to make our ends meet.
